An Industrial designer is to know... rather a lot about several aspects of the design process. We have to keep an expanding knowledge base in engineering, materials, processes, ethnographic & statistical research, project management, business & marketing, model making / prototyping, and extensive knowledge of ever growing CAD programs. Meanwhile, keeping a keen design eye updating trends, colors, and forms. This is an expansive role to play in a company that has wide spread products.
My question is do I need to apply all these elements in a portfolio? Should I fear selling a great project short of what it's really worth? Not that I whould be trying to sell anything in my portfolio, but rather selling my talent and skillset, ultimately to land a great job.
